Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade in 'Ash Brown'. Review and Mini How-To.

(A quick reminder; you still have a week left to enter my giveaway to win a MAC Lipstick here)

Anyway, as someone who loves a strong brow I've been searching for something that's right for me. I have very ashy tones in my hair and especially my eyebrows and so it's been very difficult to find a shade for my brows that isn't too warm toned, because they tend to look very red.

In the end Anastasia Beverly Hills seemed the way to go, due to their dedication to providing the correct colour for an array of skin and hair tones. They specialise in brow products and I was eager to give their shade 'Ash Brown' a try, and see if it really was the right product for me. (Side note, you're unlikely to find anywhere in the UK that sells this product in-store so as to colour match. I ordered this from Cult Beauty and pretty much had to guess my shade.)

Most other eyebrow products are only available in light, medium, and dark and that's all. For example I was using Benefit's 'Brow Zings' in Dark. The depth of colour was great, but unfortunately the shade was very red and only appropriate for warm toned hair. You can see in the picture below the two products in comparison to one another.

As it turns out the colour is a perfect match. It's slightly lighter than my hair and eyebrows, but that was intentional due to my pale skin and not wanting to look like I have slugs on my forehead. But it blends in perfectly and looks just right.

The product itself comes in a cute little black box with rose gold detailing which I love. I'm one of those people who, if a product's outer packaging is really nice I keep putting it back in the box when I've used it. That is, until the box becomes all tatty which usually happens quite rapidly thanks to my disorganised mess of a makeup bag.

The actual product comes in a little glass pot and is 4g. It's actually bigger than I expected and you hardly have to use any product on your brush so this is going to last ages! It has the little logo on top in rose gold also.

As you can tell from this picture again the colour is very ashy toned. I took the picture here before I used any of the product and I was so desperate to try it out!

The consistency of the product is slightly moussey but slightly gel-like too. I use a small angled eyebrow brush and wipe either side of the brush into the product, rather than dipping it in because I don't want to end up with clumps and waste it. The pomade glides on the skin so smoothly and is really easy to blend out. If you make a mistake there is time before it dries completely to neaten up but once it has dried it stays put all day and that, I think is the best part. Sometimes, like a bit of an idiot I forget that I'm wearing makeup and just rub my face. I'm sure we've all done it. I was wearing this on Saturday and I had an itch and just rubbed my eyebrow and panicked that I'd smudged it (because I was out without my mirror!) and as it turns out the stuff hadn't budged, at all.

I'm so pleased with this purchase and I would definitely recommend trying to get hold of some of this if you've struggled to find a colour that is right for you, because there is a choice of 11 shades on Cult Beauty and there's bound to be one to suit you. If you're having trouble here's their guide.

Mini how-to

I'm just going to quickly run through the steps of how I apply the Dipbrow Pomade as a mini how-to.

Step 1.
Draw a line with your brush along the top of your eyebrow or where you want the top of your eyebrow to be.

Step 2.
Do the same but along the bottom of the eyebrow or where you'd like the bottom to be.

Step 3.
Continue the lines to the outer edge of the eyebrow bringing them to a point where your eyebrows finish or again, where you'd like them to finish.

Step 4.
Fill in the outer edge with product stopping about halfway in to the brow.

Step 5.
Blend out the upper and lower lines into the centre of the brow, preferably not adding any more product to the brush as you don't want them to end up too dark!

And voilĂ . One brow done. I left the other blank and did so too with the eye makeup just so you can gauge how different they look before and after.

What brow products do you swear by? And have you tried any of the Anastasia Beverly Hills products before? If so let me know in the comments :)
